Az operasztár Plácido Domingo koncertjével nyílik meg a dél-alföldi régió új komplexuma, Szeged új ifjúsági és sportcentruma, a Szent Gellért Fórum augusztus 28-án.
A Szeged-Csanádi Egyházmegye meghívására érkezik Szegedre a világhírű operaénekes, Plácido Domingo. A szupersztár a 2017-ben, New Yorkban alapított Plácido Domingo Classics fesztivált hozza el, aminek Magyarország kapta meg elsőként a rendezési jogát, és az elmúlt két évben hatalmas sikerrel rendezték meg Pécsett. Idén pedig Szeged mellett Villányban és Győrben kínál zenei és gasztronómiai programokat.
Plácido Domingo a zene igazi reneszánsz alakja, napjaink legnépszerűbb operaművésze az elmúlt években szinte minden énekesi rekordot megdöntött, repertoárján 151 szerep van, több mint bármelyik tenornak valaha a zene történetében, előadásainak száma elérte a négyezret. Az egykori Három Tenor legendás művésze a legrangosabb operaházak színpadain estéről estére kirobbanó sikerrel formálja meg az operairodalom szerepeit.
Már 1999-ben túlszárnyalta Caruso rekordját, aki 17 alkalommal nyitotta meg a New York-i Metropolitan Opera évadát, Plácido Domingo napjainkig 21 színházi évadpremiert énekelt a világhírű dalszínházban.
Több tízmilliós rajongótáborát, a földrészeken átívelő népszerűségét, különleges hangi adottságának és személyiségének, egyedi varázsának, valamint széles körű zenei repertoárjának köszönheti.
A szegedi nyitóestet szervező Plácido Domingo Classics fesztivál menedzsmentje közel húsz éve dolgozik együtt a világsztárral, és számos nagy sikerű rendezvényt hoztak létre világszerte. A művész által alapított Plácido Domingo’s Operalia Nemzetközi Operaverseny magyarországi, átlagon felüli ismertségét az új operasztár-nemzedék énekeseit felvonultató koncertjeik alapozták meg. A nagy presztízsű, évente megrendezésre kerülő Operalia olyan énekesek világkarrierjét indította el, mint José Cura, Rolando Villazon, Joyce DiDonato vagy Erwin Schrott.
A Délmagyarországban már többször beszámoltunk a labdarúgó-stadion és a fedett multifunkcionális rendezvényközpont építéséről, ez utóbbi nem csak sportesemények megrendezésére alkalmas. Azt tervezik, az egyházmegye intézményeinek tanulói, valamint az állami gondoskodásban lévő fiatalok regionális, közösségi eseményeit is itt tarják. A 8000 fős lelátóval rendelkező labdarúgó-stadion az UEFA legmagasabb, 4-es előírásainak megfelelő, vagyis nemzetközi mérkőzések rendezésére, illetve Bajnokok Ligája- és Európa Liga-selejtezők lebonyolítására is alkalmas lesz. Kiss-Rigó László megyés püspök lapunknak decemberben adott interjújában elmondta, a stadiont többfunkciós konferencia-központként is szeretnék használni, akár kulturális eseményekre is.
