A világhírű operaénekes, Plácido Domingo júliusi budapesti tartózkodása során meglátogatta a felújítás alatt álló Operaházat, és a bejárás alkalmat adott arra is, hogy aláírja a 2021/22-es évadra szóló szerződését a Magyar Állami Operaházzal.
Az Operaházban tett látogatása során Domingo kifejezte csodálatát a megújuló épület iránt, valamint hangot adott reményének, hogy mihamarabb visszatérhessen dolgozni e csodálatos épület falai közé. A 2021/22-es évadra szóló szerződés aláírásának eredményeképpen a 2022. március 12-i nyitógáláján az Opera Zenekart és Énekkart fogja dirigálni, ezt követően áprilisban két alkalommal énekli Verdi Simon Boccanegrájának címszerepét. Ez lesz Plácido Domingo első jelmezes, színpadi szerepe az Andrássy úti Ybl-palota színpadán.
A népszerű operaénekes–karmester több évtizedes szoros kapcsolatot ápol az Operával és a magyar publikummal, művészetét több generáció élvezhette hazánkban első, 1973-as, majd 1987-es Erkel színházi fellépése óta. S bár a Shakespeare Estély nézői 2016-ban láthatták őt az Operaház színpadán, sőt a zenekari árokban is, teljes operaszerepben több mint három évtized elteltével lép ismét az Opera közönsége elé.
A Plácido Domingo nevével fémjelzett előadásokra szóló jegyek értékesítésével kapcsolatban az intézmény a későbbiekben tájékoztatja közönségét.

During his stay in Budapest in July, the world-famous opera singer Plácido Domingo visited the Opera House under renovation, and the tour also provided an opportunity to sign his contract with the Hungarian State Opera House for the 2021/22 season.
During his visit to the Opera House, Domingo expressed his admiration for the renewable building and expressed his hope that he would be able to return to work within the walls of this magnificent building as soon as possible. As a result of the signing of the contract for the 2021/22 season, he will conduct the Opera Orchestra and Choir at his opening gala on March 12, 2022, after which he will sing the title role of Verdi’s Simon Boccanegra twice in April. This will be Plácido Domingo’s first costumed, stage role on the stage of the Ybl Palace on Andrássy út.
The popular opera singer-conductor has had a close relationship with the Opera and the Hungarian audience for decades, and several generations have enjoyed his art in Hungary since Erkel's first theatrical performance in 1973 and then in 1987. And although spectators at the Shakespeare Evening were able to see him on the stage of the Opera House in 2016, and even in the orchestral trench, he will once again perform in full opera after more than three decades.
The institution will inform the public about the sale of tickets for performances marked with the name Plácido Domingo.
